GAMB – Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze e Musei del Bargello / Florence / May 2026
The studio designs the new visual identity for GAMB – Galleria Accademia Musei Bargello, the museum hub born from the union of the prestigious Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze with Musei del Bargello – the group that includes Museo nazionale del Bargello, Orsanmichele, Casa Martelli, Palazzo Davanzati, Cappelle Medicee and the former Chiesa di San Procolo. The project starts from these two milestones of Florentine culture to reconcile the composite nature of the system in a single symbol.
The pictogram therefore represents a dynamic synthesis of the geographical distribution of the seven venues within the historic center: a unitary core from which various branches radiate towards the different sites of the hub, transforming the map into a narrative element that symbolizes the unity of the system and its projection into the city. A true urban diagram that immediately communicates the distinctive value of the museum hub: art is not confined within a container, but unfolds across the territory that generated it through a strong, coherent language. Thus, by enhancing an architectural and artistic trail woven into the urban fabric, the system offers a journey through the multiple eras and different faces of Florence, creating intersecting thematic itineraries and multiple routes (In the footsteps of genius, Florence and its symbols, Art in detail).
The graphic sign thus becomes symbol of plurality and vitality, reinforcing a shared identity while simultaneously enhancing the specificity of each individual institution in their mutual dialogue. It is a dynamic element capable of adapting to different contexts, modulating with extreme flexibility.
The Divenire font (Cast Type Foundry) was chosen for the logotype – a sans-serif with an organic soul and a strong personality. Its squared, at times irregular and discontinuous forms – as if bearing the marks of time and the human hand – ideally evoke the paths connecting the sites: non-linear, never uniform routes, yet capable of generating harmony. It is a modern typeface that communicates institutional authority and reliability, bringing with it a rational, never cold, typically Italian elegance.
